About SWAPMEAT: Gameplay & Details

You are Squishy, a shape-shifting operative of Rangus Corp. Adapt to your enemies and outmaneuver them by stealing heads, torsos, and legs – each equipped with a unique power– creating thousands of possible strategic combos. This unique mechanic makes you harder to kill and your gameplay more strategic, no matter what enemy you encounter.
Survive your runs alone or recruit up to three friends to destroy aliens and swap their meat alongside you. With dynamically scaling difficulty, the game gets harder when players join and easier when they leave.
If you’ve ever threatened to break someone’s arm and beat them with it, well, this is that mechanic in action, and the game for you. Every limb and extremity you equip changes your strategy instantly. Rapid adaptation is your key to success. For example, equip Squat Daddy legs to jump and butt-slam enemies, or an Octo Swirl head that shoots in all directions! This upgrade path is unique to SWAPMEAT: evolving strategically mid-combat, stealing abilities and turning them against your enemies. Muahahaha.
SWAPMEAT forces improvisation in a fresh new way: you work with what drops and learn to thrive in unpredictability, while under constant siege by alien weirdos.
Waves of screwball enemies threaten to overwhelm you, but every weapon can be stolen for yourself. Dodge, shoot, and swap your way through escalating chaos while racing against time to complete objectives. Risk of Rain 2 and co-op shooters like Helldivers 2 inspired our developers, but the speed of core combat harks back to some of our favorite games, such as Quake 3, Serious Sam, and Overwatch. Hark!
Each mission throws new enemies, random events, and unexpected part combinations at you. No two runs are ever the same. Every death teaches you something new.
Bring your research back to HQ and cash it in for weapon unlocks, new perks, and company-approved improvements. Over time, you get more powerful between runs.
Drop into random and bizarre planets, from an urban speedway thick with hungry mutant speedsters to a planetary cookout overrun by hostile aliens. Battle across wackadoodle, vivid landscapes strewn with the ruins of galactic capitalism, ancient tech, and ’90’s references.
SWAPMEAT offers four different difficulty levels, from Casual to Nightmare.

The Player Experience of SWAPMEAT
The base loop is action roguelike — explore procedurally arranged environments, fight hostile alien forces, collect loot, advance through runs that get harder as you push deeper into hostile territory. The body-swap mechanic is what makes every encounter mechanically distinctive. When you defeat an enemy, you can harvest their body parts — heads, torsos, legs — and equip those parts onto your own character. Each part brings a unique active or passive ability. Squat Daddy legs let you butt-slam enemies. The Octo Swirl head fires omnidirectional projectiles. Turret-dropping torsos turn you into a mobile artillery platform. Grenade-launching turkey heads do exactly what their name suggests.
The strategic depth comes from the combination decisions. You can carry three parts at any time — one head, one torso, one legs — and the combinations produce emergent gameplay patterns that the developer themselves did not necessarily anticipate. A defensive head paired with mobility legs and an aggressive torso plays one way. An aggressive head paired with defensive legs and a support torso plays an entirely different way. One More Game has built the part roster so that nearly every combination produces a coherent playable build, which is a rare design achievement for a swap-based system at this scope.
The 1-to-4 Player Co-op and the Dynamic Scaling
The game scales dynamically with player count. Solo play presents a more focused difficulty curve. Adding co-op partners ramps up the enemy spawn density, the enemy health scaling, and the loot drop rate — the game gets harder when players join and easier when they leave, which is the right design choice for any co-op game that wants to support both serious solo runs and casual party sessions. The Cross-Platform Multiplayer tag means Steam players can party up with players on other supported platforms, which expands the matchmaking pool meaningfully for a game whose appeal depends on having co-op partners available.
Co-op partners can swap body parts with each other mid-combat, which is the systems-level joke that turns a tense combat encounter into improvised comedy. Need legs that can jump high? Your partner has them and they need yours. The swap-on-the-fly mechanic encourages constant communication and improvisational team play, which is exactly the kind of dynamic that makes a co-op game memorable rather than just functional.
How It Compares to Other Action Roguelikes

For comparison, look to Risk of Rain 2 for the co-op roguelike progression curve, and Returnal for the action-focused single-character roguelike combat. SWAPMEAT sits between these — co-op friendly like Risk of Rain 2, action-focused like Returnal, with the body-swap mechanic giving it a third dimension that neither competitor has. The closer comic comparison is Lethal Company for the absurdist co-op tone and the willingness to commit to body-horror humour without apology. Among 2026 releases in the co-op roguelike category, SWAPMEAT has one of the most distinctive identities on the storefront.
The Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op, Online Co-op, Cross-Platform Multiplayer, and Steam Achievements tags confirm the design supports the full range of play styles. The cross-platform support is meaningful for a smaller indie release — most cross-platform commitments come from larger studios, and One More Game shipping with that support at launch reflects real engineering investment.
The Bottom Line on SWAPMEAT
Yes if co-op roguelikes appeal to you and you have a friend group looking for a new go-to entry with genuine mechanical originality. Yes if the body-swap mechanic genuinely interests you — the combination potential is the entire appeal, and One More Game has executed it well. Less yes if you object to body-horror humour, or if you only play solo and want a more focused single-character experience. For the co-op-action audience at the asking price, this is a confident recommendation. One of the more memorable indie roguelikes of 2026. The body-swap mechanic delivers on its promise across every encounter, and the cross-platform co-op support makes the asking price genuinely fair value. A confident recommendation for the co-op roguelike audience. One More Game has earned the asking price comfortably. Recommended for the right player profile.
