EA Sports FC 27 early access opened today, 18 September, with the worldwide release on Friday the 25th. If you are in Malaysia and weighing it up, the decision is less about the game and more about which edition — and whether the headline new mode works on your hardware at all.

EA Sports FC 27 is listed at RM259 on the Malaysian Steam store. Worldwide release is 25 September 2026; early access began 18 September.

The dates, plainly

  • 18 September — early access opens for Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro
  • 25 September — worldwide release, all editions and platforms
  • Steam Malaysia lists 24 September, which is the timezone rolling over rather than a separate date

The Grounds does not run on older consoles

This is the detail worth checking before you buy. The Grounds is this year’s headline addition — a social football playground with kickabouts, 1v1s and Clubs, described by EA as where “the streets meet the stadium”.

It is only playable on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch get the game but not the mode — and Clubs goes with it.

If The Grounds is your reason for buying and you are on last-generation hardware, that is a reason not to.

The Grounds is the biggest addition to the series in years — and the one feature that is locked to current-generation hardware.

Which EA Sports FC 27 edition, and who each is for

  • Standard — the game, plus Career Mode and The Grounds pre-order bonuses. Right for Career Mode, Clubs and casual play.
  • Ultimate — adds up to seven days early access, FC Points and Ultimate Team perks. Worth it only if you build a FUT club every season.
  • Ultimate Plus — front-loads FC Points and Premium Passes. Expensive, and aimed squarely at heavy Ultimate Team players.

The honest test: if you mostly play Career Mode or kickabouts, Standard covers you and the extra spend buys nothing you will use. The pricier editions only make sense if you would otherwise buy FC Points during the season anyway.

Try it for ten hours before paying

EA Play subscribers get a 10-hour trial and a 10% discount on the full game. Progress carries over if you buy afterwards.

For a RM259 purchase that is a sensible first step — ten hours is enough to know whether this year’s gameplay changes land for you.

Career Mode gets a rebuilt Transfer Market this year, and defending finally gets the manual control players have been asking for.

What else changed

  • Manual defending — the control players have been requesting for years
  • Career Mode — rebuilt Transfer Market, with storytelling elements echoing FIFA 17’s The Journey
  • Ultimate Team — a new Gallery system
  • Ted Lasso and A.F.C. Richmond return, this time with the women’s team
