The Crimson Desert 1.09.00 patch went live across all platforms on 29 May 2026 and finally ticks off the single most-requested feature since launch: full controller remapping. Pearl Abyss has caught flak for the game’s rigid button layout ever since Crimson Desert shipped in March, and update 1.09.00 — known as 1.000.312 on consoles — lets every Greymane bind actions to their own preferred layout for the first time. It also drops 30-plus new pet species, fresh skills for Oongka and Damiane, seed-planting tweaks, and the usual long list of bug fixes that comes with Pearl Abyss’ near-weekly patch cadence.

On the continent of Pywel, the rival factions of Pailune maintained a tense balance. At Kliff’s side stood his steadfast Greymane comrades, but a devastating ambush in the deep of night by their sworn enemies the Black Bears leaves members of the Greymanes dead or scattered across the continent.

Kliff—having lost his family in all but name—is determined to reunite with the survivors and rebuild the faction.

But on a journey where alliances are forged, dangers abound, and mysterious factions are uncovered, Kliff will meet those who seek to upend the very order of the continent and face a mission unlike any he has ever known. Welcome to Pywel.

Here you’ll find stretches of natural beauty and wilderness—from green plains and woods to arid deserts and rugged mountains—alongside bustling cities and quiet hamlets inhabited by residents from all walks of life. Between destinations, you will come across landmarks, ancient ruins, hidden treasures, and other points of interest that will draw your curisoity to wander. Your journey will also inevitably take you skyward to the mysterious realm known as the Abyss, where a mystical imbalance endangering the world must be restored.

The world is yours to explore as you will and there are many paths for you to uncover.

Experience the continent’s stories and tales through quests, encounters, challenges, and battles. Roam the lands on various mounts from horses to even a dragon and mechs, and scale cliffsides and walls which you can leap from to glide.

The story of Crimson Desert centers on Kliff. But as his tale unfolds, 2 new playable characters—Oongka and Damiane—will come to join your journey. As these characters become available, you will be able to freely explore Pywel and undertake many quests outside the main story with them. Each character has their own combat style, as well as unique skills and weapons, allowing you to experience the world and its battles in different ways.

On the unforgiving battlefields of Crimson Desert, there is no single path to victory.

Grow your arsenal of skills, weapons, and equipment—and decide how you want to use them. Powerful weapon skills can be paired with hard-hitting bare-hand hits and kicks, as well as a wide range of grapples to create seamless chains of attacks. Acquire weapons like swords, spears, greatswords, axes, dual wields, various ranged weapons, and more, and unleash powerful abilities and elemental enhancements through lethal combinations. Stay mobile and relentless with slides, dodges, counters, and swings that flow directly into your next attack. With every strike and move, forge your own way in a world where a split second can decide your fate in fast-paced, visceral battles.

From ruthless warriors to fearsome beasts, there are those in Pywel who will seek your downfall. Encounter a diverse array of challenging enemies and bosses in brutal one-on-one duels, large-scale battle clashes, and quick skirmishes, and prevail against the threats that stand in your way.

Pywel isn’t just a continent of battles and exploration. It’s a world where many of the smaller moments also shape your journey and make up your day-to-day life.

Upgrade the Greymane camp, the starting point in the path to reclaiming the Greymanes’ lost homeland of Pailune. Gather resources, cook, fish, hunt, and partake in the other various activities of Pywel for stat replenishment, making your equipment stronger, and more. Along the way, enjoy some leisure time by playing minigames with the locals.

And shaping your daily life also extends to customization. Adjust hairstyles, tattoos, outfits, and more using dyes you brew or pick up along your journey.

Why the Crimson Desert 1.09.00 Patch Matters

Controller remapping was the headline complaint from every review at launch. Critics and players alike called the default button layout clunky, and several of the early-game tutorial fights amplified the issue by demanding heavy attack inputs that conflicted with traversal commands. The Crimson Desert 1.09.00 patch finally adds full bind customisation through the side menu — every combat action, tool function, traversal input and stealth toggle can now be reassigned, which retroactively makes a lot of the launch-window combat critiques obsolete.

The remap implementation works for both controller and keyboard / mouse setups, and the menu now warns about conflicting binds before saving. It is a small thing on paper but a central upgrade for one of the most divisive aspects of Crimson Desert’s feel — and one that opens the door for the community’s preferred layouts to spread now that Nexus Mods style remap workarounds are no longer required.

Crimson Desert 1.09.00 Patch — Full Feature List

Beyond the remap, Pearl Abyss has folded in some of the bigger systemic upgrades the player base has been asking for. The pet roster expands by around 30 small animal species — a meaningful jump that finally gives players who run Crimson Desert as a creature-collecting open world some genuine variety to chase. The patch adds dedicated animations for picking up and putting down certain pets, so the feature actually feels like part of the world rather than a menu interaction.

On the combat side, both secondary playable characters — Oongka and Damiane — get new skills that fire on the same input pattern as Kliff’s “Blinding Flash Finisher” (heavy attack while using Blinding Flash). That keeps the muscle memory consistent across the three playables and pads out the secondary characters’ combat toolkits, which have felt thin compared to Kliff’s since launch. Seed planting picks up several quality-of-life tweaks, dispatch UI now sorts comrades with required mission skills to the top, and the camp resources counter no longer reports zero comrades by mistake.

Bug Fixes in the Crimson Desert 1.09.00 Patch

The fixes list runs long but a few are worth calling out. The Magic Scythe no longer fails to draw when the inventory is full; the regular Scythe is now usable inside safe zones; the Mining Knuckledrill can be deployed while clinging to walls; equipment no longer swaps weapons mid-attack when certain tools are equipped; and the QTE input icon now appears correctly when input options are customised. Pearl Abyss also fixed an issue where legendary fish could be donated (which players had been exploiting for fast camp rep) and resolved the UI freeze when re-entering the game after an error return-to-title.

Console players see this as Crimson Desert update 1.000.312. Steam (PC and Mac), PlayStation, Xbox and the Epic Games Store all received the patch simultaneously; the Mac App Store version is still rolling out at the time of writing in May 2026. Steam’s Mac client is fully patched, but if you are on the App Store version you will need to wait a little longer for parity.

What’s Next for Crimson Desert After Patch 1.09.00

Pearl Abyss is still pushing weekly patches and has confirmed it is “exploring the idea of DLC” — don’t be surprised to see an expansion announcement sometime in the next few months, especially with Songs of the Past style premium expansions becoming the new norm across the open-world RPG space. The studio has also flagged that hotfix follow-ups typically arrive within days of major patches, so expect a Crimson Desert 1.09.01 within the week to clean up edge cases the live patch reveals. For more open-world coverage check our Upcoming 2026 Games — All the New PC Games You Won’t Want to Miss, and Pearl Abyss’ official 1.09.00 patch notes page has every line item if you want the unfiltered list.

The some genre context worth flagging here. Indie releases at this scale frequently underperform their central design quality because the launch-window creator-coverage ecosystem prioritizes already-established franchises and high-profile breakthrough titles over focused solo or small-team creative visions. The next two-to-four weeks of niche-community engagement will determine whether this specific release breaks through the typical launch-window discovery friction. For the developer, the explicit focus on focused mechanical scope and honest pricing represents the kind of long-tail creative investment that builds sustainable indie-development careers across multiple releases rather than chasing breakout commercial moments. For players curious about the niche-genre creative landscape, supporting deliberate solo-or-small-team developers through launch-window purchases provides the core commercial signal that drives further creative experimentation across the broader indie gaming ecosystem.

What This Patch Signals About Crimson Desert’s Post-Launch Support

The 1.09.00 patch arriving with substantial controller remap improvements and bug fixes reflects Pearl Abyss’s commitment to supporting Crimson Desert across its post-launch lifecycle. Action RPGs of this scope frequently launch with controller-input quirks that take patches to fully resolve, and the level of attention this patch has given to controller remapping options signals that the studio is treating player feedback as actionable rather than informational. For players who have been waiting for the controller experience to mature before committing time to the campaign, the 1.09.00 patch is the right moment to revisit. Pearl Abyss has additional content updates on the published roadmap, and the patch cadence so far suggests the studio is delivering on those commitments.
