Beltmon is on Steam in Early Access at $5.39, with a 10% launch discount at the time of writing. It is a creature-collector parody, and its own store page jokes about the lawsuit risk.

One broke solo dev, their words

Soaring Wings Games describe it as coming from “the endeavor of one broke solo dev”. That framing sets expectations honestly — this is a one-person project, priced and scoped like one.

The parody is the pitch

The store page wonders aloud whether another international lawsuit is on the way. Whether the joke sustains a whole RPG is the open question, but it is at least upfront about what it is riffing on.

It is Early Access, and that matters

Steam lists this as Early Access alongside Adventure, Indie and RPG. Buy it as an unfinished game you are supporting, not a finished one — the distinction is worth holding onto at any price.

Who it suits

People who enjoy the genre enough to find a send-up of it funny, and who are comfortable with Early Access. Five dollars is a low bar for a curiosity.

$5.39 at the time of writing. Early Access, so the price and the content will both move before 1.0.

Parody is a difficult foundation

A joke premise gets you the first hour. What keeps someone playing a creature collector for twenty is the collecting — whether the creatures are distinct enough to have favourites, and whether the battle system has any depth under the gag.

The genre is also unusually demanding to build. A hundred creatures each need art, stats, moves and a role in the meta. From a solo developer, that scope is the thing to be realistic about.

Early Access is the honest part

Soaring Wings Games have not pretended this is finished. Early Access at five dollars, with the developer openly describing themselves as broke, is a clear statement about what stage the project is at.

Buy it as support for something in progress. If the parody lands and the collecting has legs, that is upside rather than what you paid for.

There is a world to travel

Beyond the joke, Soaring Wings describe travelling through the world of Beltmon — so this is structured as a journey rather than a series of arena battles. That is the shape the games it parodies use, and copying the structure is what lets the parody land.

The question any creature collector has to answer is whether the creatures are interesting enough to want a second one. A parody has the same problem as a straight entry, and a solo developer has less capacity to fill a roster — worth checking how many exist before buying.
