Knuckle Jet is out on Steam at $13.49, with a 10% launch discount at the time of writing. It comes from Rain Games — the studio behind Teslagrad — and it is a ricochet action platformer built around punching.

Knuckle Jet: jetpunk, and a great deal of ricochet

The Teslagrad studio made this

Rain Games have a track record with physics-led platforming — Teslagrad built its whole puzzle language out of magnetism. That history is the strongest reason to pay attention here, because ricochet movement asks for the same kind of careful tuning.

Ricochet as movement

The game describes itself as nose-breaking ricochet action. Momentum from your strikes appears to be how you travel, which means attacking and moving are the same verb rather than two separate systems.

Jetpunk, whatever that is

Rain Games coined the label themselves and describe the game as off-the-wall. Taken with the studio calling themselves oddballs, expect the aesthetic to be doing its own thing rather than fitting a genre shelf.

Teslagrad earned them the benefit of the doubt

Rain Games have been doing this a long time. Teslagrad in 2013 built a whole puzzle-platformer out of magnetic polarity, and Teslagrad 2 in 2023 kept the physics literacy while widening the movement. Both were praised for feeling precise rather than floaty — the quality that decides whether a momentum-driven platformer is exhilarating or infuriating.

That track record is the reason a ricochet game from this studio is worth a look rather than a scroll past. Plenty of developers build a movement gimmick; fewer tune it until it reads as skill rather than luck.

What to watch for

The risk in any momentum platformer is legibility — whether you can see where a bounce will send you before you commit. Teslagrad solved that with clear visual language for its magnets, and how Knuckle Jet signals its ricochets is the thing to look for in early footage.

The other question is length. Rain Games make compact, authored experiences rather than sprawling ones, so expect something you finish rather than something you keep returning to.

Rain Games have form with physics

Teslagrad asked players to think in terms of attraction and repulsion, and built an entire puzzle vocabulary from one idea. Knuckle Jet appears to be doing the same thing with momentum — a single mechanic explored properly rather than a toolbox of unrelated abilities.

That is a harder design to get right and a more satisfying one when it works, because mastery comes from understanding one system deeply rather than memorising many. The studio calling itself oddballs is not false modesty either; the Teslagrad games were genuinely strange.
