Explore and mine fully destructible worlds. Automate increasingly complex production chains. Delve deep to uncover an ancient civilization’s powerful secrets an
Sandustry entered Steam Early Access on 13 August 2026, developed by Lantto Games and published by Hooded Horse. It is a factory automation game built on falling-sand physics, and that combination is rarer than it sounds — the terrain is not a backdrop you build on top of, it is the resource itself.
Every pixel is a resource
The core conceit is that the entire world is made of simulated particles. Sand, ore and liquid all obey falling-sand physics, which means mining does not carve neat tunnels — it displaces material that then flows, settles and collapses according to the simulation.
Lantto describes the world as vast and fully destructible, seeded with artifacts left by an ancient civilisation. You start by sifting gold from sand and scale up from there into processing chains and logistics networks.
The practical consequence is that your factory floor is unstable in a way most automation games never have to model. Dig carelessly and the material above flows into the space you just cleared.

Branching priorities rather than one tech ladder
Progression is framed as competing priorities rather than a single upgrade path. The store page poses it directly: focus on advanced processing and logistics across an expanding factory, make use of local wildlife to assist the mission, or spend resources hunting artifacts to unlock their benefits.
Those pull against each other because they draw on the same resource pool. Choosing artifacts over logistics means a less efficient factory for a stretch, which is a more interesting structure than a linear tech tree where everything eventually gets unlocked anyway.
Early Access — what that means here
This matters more than usual, so be clear on it. Sandustry carries Early Access as a Steam genre tag, meaning the game is playable but incomplete and will change.
Hooded Horse states the Early Access build is fully playable and contains all the content and features described on the store page — a more concrete commitment than most Early Access listings offer. They also state the price may increase during the Early Access period as content is added. If you are on the fence, the current price is likely the floor rather than the ceiling.
A free demo has been available for some time and carries an Overwhelmingly Positive rating, so you can evaluate the core loop before paying.

Platform support and Steam features
The feature set is unusually complete for an Early Access launch. Sandustry ships on Windows, macOS and Linux — all three at once, which very few releases in recent weeks have managed.
Steam integration covers Achievements, Trading Cards, Steam Workshop, Cloud saves and Family Sharing. Workshop support is the significant one: Lantto built the game with modding in mind and ships dedicated tools covering everything from visual tweaks and hand-made maps through to entirely new buildings and production processes.
This is single-player. Steam genre tags are Simulation, Strategy and Early Access.

The launch discount, and a warning about it
Sandustry is available at $14.99 verified against the Steam store page on 13 August 2026. That is the steepest cut on any game covered here this week.
Two things make the timing unusual. The discount is large for a day-one Early Access release, and the publisher has openly said the price will rise as development continues. Buying now means the lowest price this game is likely to carry, on a title whose demo already holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating.
The trade is the standard Early Access one: you are paying for an incomplete game on the expectation it gets finished. Hooded Horse has a solid track record with automation titles, but that expectation is still the thing you are buying.
