A cinematic, story-driven alien horror set in 1999 Ohio. Work the night shift at a remote gas station. A mysterious briefcase from the lake. Stolen uranium fuel
[HERROR] Gas Station Case released on Steam on 11 August 2026, and it is worth understanding the structure before buying: this is the first episode of an anthology, not a standalone game that might get sequels. The developer, working under the name [HERROR], has framed the whole series up front.
An anthology built around short, self-contained episodes
[HERROR] is described as a series of short horror episodes in which ordinary work routines collide with paranormal threats. Each entry is a unique standalone story running 1.5 to 2 hours.
Gas Station Case is episode one. That matters for expectations — you are buying a couple of hours of tightly scoped horror, not a campaign. The anthology format also means there is no cliffhanger dependency; each episode is intended to resolve on its own terms.

The setup: a night shift in Ohio
You play Dan Cooper, a 25-year-old working night shifts at a gas station in Ohio after being laid off from a uranium plant. He is trying to get his life back on track, which is a more grounded starting position than most horror games bother with.
The story turns when Dan’s friend Michael finds a mysterious case by the lake. People start disappearing in the surrounding woods, and the gas station — established early as a comfortable, familiar space — becomes the trap.
That progression from cosy to hostile is the structural idea the whole episode runs on, and it depends on the mundane opening being convincing rather than filler.
Walking sim mechanics, with an actual job in them
Mechanically this is a first-person narrative walking simulator with exploration, dialogue and — distinctively — work mechanics. You refuel cars, serve customers and keep the gas station running while the situation outside deteriorates.
The developer names Fears to Fathom and Chilla’s Art as direct inspirations, which is an accurate and useful signal. If you know that lineage, you know the shape: first-person, low-key, dread built through routine rather than through combat or chase sequences. There is no fighting back here.
Presentation leans on atmospheric environments with deliberately cosy visuals and a light VHS tape aesthetic, and the store page emphasises a story built around small details rather than large set pieces.

Accessibility and technical details
The listing includes Playable without Timed Input, meaning nothing in the game requires reaction-speed input to progress — a reasonable fit for a narrative game and a genuine help for players who need it. Custom volume controls are supported, along with stereo and surround sound output. Steam Achievements are included.
This is a single-player, Windows-only release. Localisation covers eleven languages including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Thai, Turkish and both Brazilian and European Portuguese. Steam genre tags are Adventure, Casual and Simulation.
One caution rooted in the store page’s own warning: not every visitor to the station is human. Treat the customer service loop as part of the horror design rather than downtime.

Six dollars for two hours
[HERROR] Gas Station Case is on Steam at $5.99, with no launch discount applied at the time of writing in August 2026. That figure was checked against the store listing on 13 August 2026.
Six dollars for two focused hours is fair pricing for the genre, and the anthology framing means you can try episode one without committing to anything longer. If you have worked through the Chilla’s Art catalogue and want more in that register, this is aimed squarely at you.
