Type Ride entered Steam Early Access on 23 August 2026 from NOT__OK. It fuses typing practice with tower defence — you summon monsters by typing them, from a deck you build yourself.

Type to summon, then command

The core loop is exactly what the name promises. You battle by typing to summon monsters from a custom-built deck, then command them to defeat encroaching Ink Monsters and push toward the enemy base.

Typing as a summon mechanic gives the genre a genuinely different skill floor. Your throughput is your words per minute, so getting faster at typing is literally getting better at the game.

Overlay Cartridges stack on top

Beyond Monster Cartridges there are Overlay Cartridges, used to enhance summoned monsters with additional abilities or stat boosts. The more you overlay, the stronger the result.

That gives deckbuilding a second axis — not just which monsters, but how much investment each one carries. It is where the strategy sits once the typing becomes automatic.

Early Access — set expectations

Early Access sits in the genre tags alongside Indie. Treat it as an unfinished game that will change, from a developer without an established catalogue.

Six store screenshots is modest, so the build is likely early. Steam Achievements and Family Sharing are included; this is single-player and Windows only.

Localisation is broad for a small release

Language support covers English, Japanese, French, German and Spanish. For a typing game that matters more than usual — the words you type are the interface, so a proper localisation is not cosmetic.

Eight nine at launch

Type Ride is on Steam at $8.99 at the time of writing in August 2026. Discounts change often — the spec table below is checked against the live listing. Discounts change often — the spec table below is checked against the live listing.

One correction: this is not an upcoming title. It entered Early Access on 23 August and is available now.

Eight dollars is fair for a genuinely novel hybrid, with the usual Early Access caveat that you are funding development. If you want a tower defence game that improves your typing as a side effect, nothing else in the genre does this.
