SURA: Shattered Star released on Steam on 14 August 2026, developed by HanRyang Studio and published under the Jungle Game Lab label. It is a 2D sword-fighting action platformer set in space, and it is free to play — but the more important detail is what kind of project it is.
A two-month proof of concept, stated openly
HanRyang is unusually candid on the store page. SURA was built over roughly two months as a final project at KRAFTON Jungle Game Lab, and it is described as a free proof of concept created to explore and validate the game’s core combat, movement, visual direction and narrative potential within a limited development window.
They go further, stating that rather than representing a full-scale commercial production, this is intended as a playable showcase of the concepts and direction behind the game.
That framing should set your expectations completely. This is not a short commercial game priced at zero — it is a vertical slice built to prove an idea works, released publicly so people can try it. Judging it as a finished product would be judging it as something it never claimed to be.

Sura, and a revenge that is really about guilt
You play Sura, once a swordswoman of the Goh Dynasty. She survived the war that brought her homeland under Imperial rule but was officially recorded among the dead, and now lives as a mercenary.
She pursues a figure known as the Doctor — not because he is directly connected to her survival, but because she wants to believe that killing him is the reason she was allowed to live. HanRyang states the real obstacle plainly: to complete her revenge Sura must overcome not only the enemies in her way but the survivor’s guilt and wounds she has carried since the war.
Steam user tags list Multiple Endings and Story Rich, so the narrative has more structure than a proof of concept usually carries.
Asterium-powered combat and movement
Mechanically this is a fast-paced 2D action platformer built on Asterium-powered sword combat and fluid movement, in a space opera setting. Sura is explicitly framed as not a chosen hero — the systems, not a power fantasy, are meant to carry it.
Since validating the combat feel was the stated purpose of the project, that is where the effort went. Steam tags include Hack and Slash, Side Scroller and Pixel Graphics.

Accessibility and platform details
The listing includes full controller support and DualShock controller support, plus Playable without Timed Input and a playable-at-your-own-pace designation — a considered inclusion for a game built around fast sword combat.
This is single-player, Windows only. No Steam Achievements or Cloud saves are listed, which is consistent with the project’s scope.
Localisation is genuinely broad for a student project: Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Russian. Steam genre tags are Action, Adventure, Indie and Free To Play.

Setting the record straight on the release
Two corrections worth making, since the coverage has been muddled.
First, the original release date trailer announced 31 July 2026. That date slipped, and a delay announcement followed. The game actually arrived on 14 August 2026 — so it is out now, not awaiting a confirmed date.
Second, it is free. There is no price, no discount and nothing to weigh up on value. Early reception is positive at 100% across the first 16 user reviews, though that is a very small sample.
If a two-month proof of concept with sharp 2D sword combat sounds worth an hour, it costs you nothing but the download. Just go in knowing the developers have told you exactly what it is.
Full details are on the official Steam store page.
