About Sill Sticks: Gameplay & Details

Game feature image

Sill Sticks is an idle desktop app where a stick figure comes to live on the edges of your desktop windows — all you do is watch and enjoy.

The star is "Bota," a stick figure who’s sloppy, forever slacking off, a bit of a handful, and… maybe a little cute? Somehow, you just can’t hold it against him. He grumbles and lazes around, yet he seems quietly happy somehow. Bota dreams of being a cat, is hopeless around sweets, holes up at every opportunity, and spends his days on games, TV, and sleep. You sneak a peek at his mutterings between tasks. That’s the whole app.

Mutters in context — Bota idly talks to himself based on the time of day, the day of the week, and how long the app has been left running. In the morning it’s "Still sleepy…", and late at night it’s "Go to bed already… yeah, me too." The combinations produce different lines from day to day.

Just peek at him — Bota knows you’re there. Every now and then he’ll talk to you. Maybe a friendship will blossom?

Stays out of your way — Bota won’t get in your way. He’s just idling through life at his own pace. Though he does talk to you sometimes. Sometimes. We plan to keep updating Sill Sticks little by little.

Anyone is free to stream Sill Sticks or post videos of it, monetized or not. No prior permission or notice is required.

The Playful Sticks Setting and the Editorial Voice

The playful sticks setting anchors the design distinctive visual identity where the aesthetic supports the mechanical framework across the campaign. The atmospheric commitment gives the design’s mechanical decisions meaningful narrative weight beyond pure abstraction, and players who engage with the setting seriously find their gameplay experiences resonating with the studio’s editorial vision across the campaign.

The atmospheric commitments differentiate Sill Sticks from generic casual simulation releases that treat setting as decorative wrapper around gameplay mechanics. SQOOL has clearly invested in the atmospheric craft as primary editorial dimension rather than as budget compromise, and the consistency of that commitment supports the compound engagement that memorable indie releases sustain across long-form community retention.

The Verdict on Sill Sticks

Yes if casual simulation games are a comfort genre and you appreciate solo-developer editorial commitment. Yes if you enjoyed casual simulation games, indie sticks games, or contemporary casual simulation releases and want another entry with distinctive editorial framing. Yes if casual stick-based mechanics with playful voice appeals to you as design commitment. Less yes if you prefer heavier production values or if casual simulation design feels underwhelming for your preferences. For the casual simulation audience at zero cost, this is a confident recommendation.

Sill Sticks Verdict: 7/10 and Solid at the Current Price

Sill Sticks bears evidence of deliberate design decisions — the mechanical dialog between systems is coherent and the tempo controlled, and there’s genuine identity in the design choices.

The Sill Sticks Long-Term Prospect

The question with any indie release isn’t just “is this good on day one” but “will this still be interesting in six months.” Sill Sticks shows signs of both: the mechanical foundation is solid enough to support long-tail play, and the developer’s approach suggests they’ll continue to support the game post-launch. That combination — good bones plus commitment to iteration — is what separates games worth buying at launch from games worth wishlisting for a sale.

Sill Sticks on Steam Deck and Handheld

Sill Sticks launches on Windows PC and is presumably targetable on Steam Deck via Proton. Deck-focused players should verify performance and controller mapping during the refund window. Many indie titles in this scope run acceptably on Deck even without official verification.

For non-Deck handheld hardware (ROG Ally, Legion Go), community threads in the Steam forums usually surface performance notes within a week of launch.
